Also known as Perch, Lake Perch

The yellow perch is perhaps the most common fish of northern freshwater lakes and can be quickly recognized by its tiger-like stripes. Perch are widely considered to be one of the best tasting freshwater fish and are often highly saught after by anglers. Perch are a fairly rugged fish and can adapt to just about any habitat, but often tend to inhabit shallow, weedy areas.

Luckily for fishermen, perch travel in schools, so if an angler catches one, there are bound to be more. Northern Pike are probably the perch's primary predator, but due to their small size, they end up food for many predatory fish.

Successful strategies for catching perch include trolling with night crawler harnesses, jigging with grubs, and of course, the old worm and bobber. Larger perch are known to strike on conventional lures as well.
